Final ‘Wolverine’ Film in X-Men Series Aims For an R-Rating

Seems like Wolverine will follow suit and claw his way to an R-rating. After Deadpool shattered the box office, breaking records to secure the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film, it looks like 20th Century Fox will do the same for Huge Jackman’s swan song, as he reprises his role for the last time as the popular mutant.

It’s hard to believe that a storied character such as Wolverine, who’s volatile history was never considered for an R-rating in the first place. This new change in direction has been something that fans have been clamoring for ever since news broke out that the Marvel character would have his own solo films. While the first two installments have been nothing to sneeze at, this R-rating gives the franchise a proper sendoff.

So we should all thank the “Merc With a Mouth” for proving that superhero films can be targeted for mature audiences and still rack up millions. With 2016 already releasing an abundance of superhero movies, it would be nice that future films will go the Deadpool route for some of their more edgier comic book adaptions.

See Hugh Jackman for the last time as Wolverine when Wolverine 3 hits theaters across the country March 3, 2017.
