It’s no secret that the Houston Rockets have been a disappointment this season. After making an appearance in last year’s Western Conference Finals, where they got ousted by eventual NBA champions Golden State Warriors, the team has failed to improve on last season’s success.
First it started with the early surprise firing of head coach Kevin McHale, and then trade rumors of Dwight Howard began to circulate around the league. Many thought it was Dwight Howard who pulled the strings to get McHale the boot out of Houston, but according to other sources Howard wasn’t the culprit.
CBS Sports were told by league sources that it was James Harden that got McHale fired and also pushed management to trade Dwight Howard. The two superstars have been at odds all season. It’s becoming more apparent that Harden and Howard can’t coexist.
“It’s really bad for the locker room dynamic,” one source said. “If everybody knows that James Harden can fire you or trade you, are you going to pass the ball to Dwight or are you going to pass the ball to James Harden?”
As the regular season nears a conclusion, it will be interesting to see how this story in Houston plays out. At the moment the Houston Rockets are hanging on to the 8th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
