The Raw after WrestleMania proved to be one of the craziest nights ever after the Showcase of the Immortals. Monday night viewers at home witnessed WWE Superstar Roman Reigns encountered one of the most hostile reactions any wrestler has ever received in recent memory. The volatile Orlando audience in attendance spewed disparaging remarks at the former three-time WWE champion. Literally, the crowd were chanting “Fuck you, Roman!” on live television. Roman Reigns stood there in the center of the ring (for what seemed like an eternity) and soaked it all in. When Reigns was finally able to speak, he cut arguably one of the GOAT promos ever: with the utterance of 5 simple words, Reigns cemented his status in WWE history: “This is my yard now!”
Reigns is no stranger to garnering crazy reactions from the WWE universe. Since the night he won the 2015 Royal Rumble, Roman Reigns has been in many fans’ eyes shoved down their throats. From the time The Shield disbanded in 2014, it seemed like a no-brainer that Vince McMahon had handpicked Reigns to be his next top Superstar to usher in a new generation of wrestlers for the WWE. Just like John Cena before him, Roman has been getting major backlash from wrestling purist as being a puppet for McMahon. Hell, in the span of 6 months Reigns had already won the WWE championship 3 freakin’ times. The man has main-evented WrestleMania 3 years in a row, while other fan favorites (i.e. AJ Styles) have yet to compete in just one ‘Mania main event.

This year’s WrestleMania didn’t help matters either. Reigns laid waste to the legendary Undertaker–ending a career that spans back to 1984 (1990 with WWE). With the win over the Undertaker, Roman Reigns became only the second man to defeat the Deadman on the Grandest Stage of The All. A feat that saw the Undertaker win an unprecedented 21 matches straight until Brock Lesnar ended the streak at WrestleMania XXX.
The most intriguing aspect of Reigns is the fact that WWE refuses to turn Reigns heel (aka a bad guy for the wrestling illiterate). At this point, Reigns is neither babyface or heel, he’s simply That Guy as he states it. Whatever the case may be, whether you love him or hate him, Roman Reigns has become one of the most polarizing wrestlers of his generation.

The Roman Reigns empire is in full swing, with no clear signs of slowing down. If he continues to generate heat like this from the crowd, guaranteed it’ll do more good than harm. Roman is already the top merchandise seller next to Cena, so he’s doing something right. Vince McMahon doesn’t give a damn if you boo Reigns or him for that matter. Fans are still paying their hard earned money to chat “Shut the fuck up!” to a man they despise, and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters most.
